type='text'>In Search of Carousels

I love carousels, I love their music, I love their age, I love to imagine them when they were young and those they gave rides to. I love the jumpers and finding the lead horse, this one is a beautiful example. I had discovered on the web the there is a carousel north of Spokane. I told Ted that I would really like to see it, so we planned a trip up there over the 4th of July weekend 2005. I had learned that the carousel was located at the fair grounds in Republic and that you should call ahead to see if they were going to be open and that you could arrange to view it if it wasn't scheduled to be open, I never got an answer when I called but we went anyways. The owner at the RV park we stayed at tried to contact the owners of the carousel when we were they but he didn't have any luck either. We were able to walk around the Pavallion the carousel is housed in, but could only view it through the tinted glass which made for poor photos. Hopefully we will plan another a trip up there soon it is a beautiful area.

Movie clips from the concert

Little by little I get things done. The Muckleshoot Indians are a tribe I hadn't heard of so of course
I am going to tell you about them here. When you google Muckleshoot Indian the results mostly are for gaming but some come with a brief history of the tribe
There is also the Tribes Home Page This is another interest page about them.

We left our house June 10th around noon, we weren't in a huge rush as the show didn't start until 8pm but it was Friday and we knew we would hit rush hour traffic in the area and since we hadn't been there before wanted time to check things out and see if there might be an rv park that might be within walking distance, there isn't. We normally take 90 all the way into the Seattle area, but since we had plenty of time we got off on 82 in Yakima. This is a beautiful scenic drive along the Yakima River it's a nice wide two lane road. We drove this to Ellensburg were we returned to 90 and stayed on it through North Bend. There we got off onto 18 and it was 4pm with plenty of time,
Highway 18, no traffic

However we soon came to a dead stop, we had run into construction traffic and inched our way along for about 30 mins.
Highway 18 with construction traffic

Ted had sit up the gps on the laptop and it had mapped out this route for us as shorter and we were following along just fine until the exit, I forget now the name of the exit, which is why one should do this sort of thing earlier then 2 weeks after, but back to our trip, we got to the stop sign at the end of the off ramp and we should have turned left but Ted went right.I saw this really nice house as Ted was making the first of his wrong turns and wanted a picture, so this is the wrong turn

and this is a better picture of the house

We ended up on a beautiful drive. These are some pictures of the scenery we saw:

The gps did get us where we were headed, the only problem, besides not listening to it, it talks, was it was detecting places along the narrow 2 lane road for school buses to pull over and it would tell us that we could turn around in them, but it isn't able to take into its plotting how big we are, so we would drive along and it would tell us we were off track that we could turn around so far ahead in distance and in minutes, which got really old, and since we couldn't find any place to turn around we just kept driving, eventually the gps guy noted a major road ahead of us and Ted followed his directions which brought us out almost on top of the ampitheater and by this old weed covered store.

At this point should have turned left, turned right. Traffic was heavy and not knowing where we were and being so big Ted kept driving hoping to find a large parking lot to turn around in. We ended up going about 10 miles out of our way. When we got turned around we got caught in traffic that was going to the concert. We got to the Ampitheater 5 minutes before the parking lot opened, which worked out well since we saw there wasn't an RV park in the area.

Where we parked.

After the show we spent the nite in the parking lot of the Ampitheater, we were the only ones there. but it was quiet unlike when we spent the nite at the Gorge and it was party time after that show. So now I will share my pictures of the drive. The area was so beautiful, and green. Seems like we were back in the eastern states rather then 40 miles out of Seattle, beautiful farms lots of horses, so I was actually pleased that Ted didn't listen to the little voice.

Two Hats and a Redhead Weekend

Had a great weekend, went to see the Two Hats and a Redhead show in support of Habitat for Humanity Terri Clark, Brad Paisley and Reba, bet you can't guess who the redhead is, in Auburn Washington at the White River Amphitheater. Reba is one of my very favorites but I really like the others alot also, so this was like the perfect show, 3 top favorites for the price of one. It was sort of a last minute thing, Kathy got the tickets Wednesday night after midnight. Unfortunately they didn’t get to see entire show. They got there as Terri Clark was finishing. They saw all of Brad Paisley’s part. Reba was late in arriving and since Kathy had to work the next morning they were unable to see her entire show as it’s a long drive back over to our side of the world.

The Concert started promptly at 8pm. When I say promptly I mean as the big hand was moving to the 12 Terri just appeared up on stage
waiting for the audiance to be seated she got to heckel the them.
If I could put video here I could share that with ya'al,
Her part of the show was fun, can't think of a song she does I haven't enjoyed, would have to say that I Wanna Do It All is a big favorite of mine. She did her hits and a few from her upcoming CD. I think her upcoming single will do well about being a single parent, it's a very touching song.

Brad Paisley followed

doing his hits and doing a Dr. Phil thing, because he can as he said. I like a really good love song, who doesn't? I hope his love song he wrote for his wife is on his upcoming CD. This new love song of his I think will really touch every woman's heart deeply, you have to love a man who can write such powerful words. Brad's band is from wherever they are playing, Kathy and I saw them a few years ago here in the tri-cities and they were all from here, this time they were all from the Western side of Washington and reading another blog from the Virgina show they were all from there for that one.

Reba came on around 10:30, she was late, didn't say why, just jumped right in. The weather was rainy and cold, the seats in the amphitheater are covered but its still cold and damp, by the end of the show Rebas hair was just about flat.

She covered her hits for the past 30 years. She didn't do her flash change of outfit during Fancy, don't know if she is still doing it or didn't do it because she was late. I love her new single My Sister, I don't have sisters but I can relate the feelings in the song to my 3 aunts and my sister inlaws, you know who you are.

Reba returned and did Fancy, then she was joined by Terri for Does He Love You and Brad played guitar while enjoying a cigar. Then they did 2 numbers altogether, Oklahoma Swing and When will I be Loved. They left the stage around 12:15am. I'll try to add a picture of the 3 of them I have, but first I have to learn how to make a still from a movie clip, I just let our camcorder run for the last 3 numbers, my regular camera was full.

While we were waiting to go in to the seating area Karen and Hailey called so we took family pictures with Reba: Here is Ted with Karen and Hailey on the cell with Reba
<img border='0' style='border:1px solid #AAAAAA; I have been a Cher fan since before Sonny and Cher when they were known as Caeser and Cleo, believe I even have the record they released under that name. I have really been wanting to see this final concert of hers and was so surprised to get the tickets. Ted and I saw Sonny and Cher in concert in 1971 at a Theater in the Round in Redwood City California, when they were doing the TV show, it was pretty much their TV show on the road without the costume changes.
Cher performed in Spokane on January 23, 2005 at the Spokane Arena.

Our seats were on the floor in section F5 this shows more seating behind us but there was only one row behind us. The "Official" Village People were the opening act, we all got to do the YMCA with the real deal. One of the best parts of her show for me was her remake of Bang Bang. The headdress she wore was, as described by my seat neighbor, dazzelingly spectacular, it took his breathe away. This picture from the program doesn't do it justice. The ends of it are flame red.

We stayed at the Red Lion River Inn, not far from the Arena. Sunday turned into a very nice day and we were able to walk to the Arena, which sits just off the Spokane River. There are a few Restuarants in the immediate area, we however ate at one of our favorites, the Old Spaghetti Factory. Walking around the Arena some of the things you'll see is this sclupture. Each piece is on a different step of the walkway the goes along the side of the Arena.
Directly across the street from the Arena, sitting on the Spokane River is the Old Flour Mill. Inside you will find unique shops, restuarants, a coffee shop, cigar shop and a sports bar.

The view from the outdoor patio is a spectular one of the Spokane River. Then we walked around the streets, they were having their annual Western Days. It had been a pretty wet week-end and today was very nice. We watched a shoot out. Below is a group photo of the "towns folk."

The Towns folk of Jackson Wyoming May 30, 2004.

We then watched a performance by a dance group, Jean's Golden Girls, a group of women age 45 to 87 years young, I missed the chance to get a photo of their oldest member 87 years young, doing a high kick and then doing the splits.

Later in the afternoon we went back to the other side of the mountains and took a drive around Driggs Idaho, one of our stops was at the Historic "Spud Drive-in Theater.

us parked in front of historic Spud Drive-in Theater in Driggs Idaho May 30, 2004

Also there is the huge spud on a flat bed truck parked in front of the Theater.

Spud Truck in front of Historic Drive-in Theater in Driggs Idaho.

Saturday May 29, 2004 Day Four

Early Saturday evening, May 29, 2004 Victor Idaho

We decided to go into Idaho Falls for the afternoon, son needed a few things from "<a href="http://www.homedepot.com"target="_blank">The Man Store" and we decided since it was windy and raining we would go see the new movie, <a href="http://www.thedayaftertomorrow.com"target="_blank">The Day After Tomorrow. We have been friends since 1979 when we bought the house next door to them. Kids are the same age and we did a lot of things together. Her granddaughter is so cute.

Went and walked through the house, made a list of things that need attention and arranged for the tenant to do most of the work and take it off the rent. They seem like they will be good tenants.

Left Idaho Falls around 2 or 3pm, it was raining and windy, and headed to Victor Idaho.

We got to Victor a little before 5pm. It was drizzely, with heavy rain once in awhile. We were given space 6 for the weekend. As we were getting ready to drive to the space son got there, it was so good to see him, it had been a few years since we had gotten to spend time with him and we both have been looking forward to our visit this weekend.

Space 6 was a mud bog, had to put the truck in 4 wheel drive to pull the 5th wheel out and then it wasn't easy. We took space 7 instead, there was a slight angle to where it seems that the water ran off into space 6. We got set up and went to the Knotty Pine for dinner, it was an excellent meal. We went back to the 5th wheel and watched Master and Command again, son hadn't seen it and we liked it so watched it again, only this time instead of on our little 13 inch tv we tried it on the computer.

Thursday May 28, 2004 Day Two

Arrived in Idaho Falls where we spent the night at the KOA.

We visited with Barbara and Paul in the afternoon. Visiting with them is always fun and interesting, they have done a lot of work in there back yard and it is really looking nice. At the moment their oldest daughter has moved back in with her 5 children, her boyfriend cooked dinner, ribs and 2 types of pasta salad, excellent meal, the ribs fell apart they were so tender. He browned them on the barbaque then puts them in a large baking pan and covers them with sauce and bakes them all day. Their youngest daughter has also moved back in. Their oldest granddaughter is getting married, hard to remember that kids do continue to grow up even when your not around them, I still tend to think of her as about 12 years old.

Learned that Plaza Lanes, where we bowled when we lived there in the 1972-73, again in 1979-1983 and then when we moved there after retirement in 1990 until we moved in 1995, had closed the week before.

First Trip of the 2004 Season; Day One

This first trip of the season is over the Memorial Day Weekend, We started out Wednesday, May 26, 2004, between 10:30 and 11am from our home in West Richland, Washington. We went to Driggs Idaho to visit our son. Before we met up with him we stopped in Idaho Falls, Idaho for the night, where we got to visit with friends.

Wednesday afternoon about 3pm we stopped in Glenns Ferry to spend the night at <a href="http://www.idahoparks.org/parks/threeisland.html"target="_blank">Three Island Crossing State Park.

This is the first time this year we have taken the 5th wheel out, and it was in bad need of a cleaning, so that is what I did that evening.

For dinner we had steak and salad. That night we started watching the movie, Master and Commander, the Far Side of the World.

The Gas prices in Idaho were a little cheaper then at home, we paid $2.09 for diesel the first day in Idaho.

We had rain from home until just before we got to Boise, it was a constant rain at times heavy. We had no winds which is nice.
